Didim Akbük Saplı Island
The island, located about 100 m offshore Akbük Bay, can be reached on foot. Saplı Island, a protected area, was formed by volcanic ash accumulation spread from a very big volcanic eruption that took place in Aegean Sea in 1500 BC. It’s still possible to see this ash layer today. If looked at a couple of cm under the soil, it is possible to see this ash layer.
