Alabanda Ancient City (Araphisar)
Ancient city of Alabanda is within the borders of Doğanyurt village in Çine District. The name "Alabanda" derives from the Carian words which mean horse (Ala) and race (Banda). Byzantine historian Stephanos claims that King Kar named the city Alabanda after his son Alabandos won a horse race. Cicero, on the other hand, in his work "The Nature of the Gods" says that the city is named after the Carian god Alabandos. In Alabanda, there are Hellenistic and Roman ruins such as towered walls, theatre, senate house, people's assembly building, The Temple of Apollo, agora, and mausoleums. In addition in the south there is a Roman Period aqueduct on the Kemer Creek.
