City of Tralleis was established at the south foot of Messogis Mountains (modern Aydın Mountains) by Thracians and the people of Argos in the 13th century BC. In ancient times the city of Tralleis was protected by city walls, and the most important structure in the city is the structure that is colloquially known as "Üç Gözler"(Three Eyes) also known as Gymnasium (education and sports). The city was famous for its sculpture academy and ceramic workshops. The artifacts that survived in the city until today are; the public bath, the gymnasium, the arsenal, and the theatre. The oldest song in the world with known lyrics and notes is Seikilos' song which dates back to 2300 years ago. Anthemius, one of the two architects of Hagia Sophia, lived in this city.
