Kanlıbahçe (lit. Bloody Orchard) (Koçkuyusu) Martyr’s Cemetery
During the invasion, the oppression, threats and torture against Turks continued in Germencik as well until the day of liberation. The biggest incident that took place in this region is the Kanlıbahçe massacre where 92 people were massacred. The Greek soldiers and their collaborators, who got defeated and were on the retreat towards İzmir, gathered the Turks who were hiding from oppression and torture in an orchard in Kanlıbahçe and massacred them. Only three little kids survived the massacre.
Türk Hava Kurumu (Turkish Aviation Association) had a monument built in 1961, one which lists the names of the martyrs on its three faces.
