Karatepe Martyr’s Cemetery

Karatepe Village of Köşk District had been the village where Greeks committed the most violent and bloody massacre during the national struggle. In the village, where there were six neighborhoods, the villagers were first robbed of their valuable items, and then they were gathered in mosques and killed with machine guns and bombs. In case there were any survivors, they stabbed the villagers one by one with bayonets; after that they burned them in their homes and mosques. At a later date Karatepe villagers built high walls and erected marble tombstones in Sekiyurt and Sarıahmetler Mosques’ places where the massacres took place.
